More To Mica - Life & Fashion Theme Update

The brand Harlan+Holden sounds new to me. I haven’t heard of the brand until Fashion Institute of the Philippines, Fashion Merchandising class got invited to attend the round table discussion. And luckily I was part of the crew.



The round table discussion happened yesterday at the Harlan Tent, Fashion Walk in Greenbelt 5. Claps for the #HarlanTent setup! The venue was so cute.

The first panels to discuss with Caroline Issa where Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Pam Quiones and Pauline Juan. Plus, the host of the event Tim Yap. They talked about the fundamentals of branding. Having a brand bible - the map and direction of the brand sticked to me the most. That you should separate what you want to do and what you don’t want to do.

The second batch of panelists were Kim Jones, Rajo Laurel, Anne Canlas and Cecile van Straten of Chuvaness.com, discussed mostly about Digital Branding.

I’m blessed to be able to attend this event. I’ve got a few tips for how I should present my own brand (my blog) and the brand me and my boyfriend have put up (Salute Streetstyle). The key components is sticking to a brand bible, despite times that you’ve got to break the brand bible you should still be able to bend it to accomodate with ways and personalities of people, but you have to at least incorporate the brands values. One more important thing is to consistency in all aspects of your branding.

My mom taught me to never shave any of my bodily hairs for it’ll darken the skin. I don’t pluck as well for this will cause chicken skin. But I had come to the stage of puberty. Unlike others who is lucky enough to have less to zero armpit hair (men included), I on the other hand have been blessed with hair. Lol.

There was no stopping these pesky armpit hair. I don’t shave or pluck so I had no choice but to have my armpit hair removed by professionals. My first ever waxing was done here at Lynderm Facial Center & Day Spa near us. I’ve read from different forums that waxing is painful. But when I had my first underarm waxing, aside from the heat it didn’t hurt as much. Maybe because I’ve got a certain tolerance when it comes to pain (even if people who know me see me as someone weak). Yes! I have a high tolerance of pain!! From then on I had my underarm hair removed by spas/salons. This lasted for about 4-5 times. I googled and did my research on how I can remove my own underarm hair and after reading several other blogs I bought my first jar of sugar wax. From then on I never came back to a spa/salon and removed my own armpit hair. I’ve tried several kinds and brands of sugar wax and even strips. Some performed but some was just a disappointment.

I’ve been loyal to a sugar wax until it started to perform less than usual. I was even rooting and recommending the product to others but there’s a lot of armpit hair that isn’t removed by the wax anymore. I’ve probably become immune with the sugar wax or my underarm hair has gotten tougher (lol, what? I hope not).



I decided to try and give chance to other brands of waxing. I made a trip to Watson’s and took out this pretty and cute box from Nanny Rose’s Queen Bee Sticks & Pulls Honey Wax All Natural Hair Remover.

Here’s the back of the box with instructions and other info about Nanny Rose’s Queen Bee Sticks & Pulls Honey Wax All Natural Hair Remover.

HOW TO USE:

1. Simply remove cap and heat the jar of wax in a microwave oven (in medium heat) for 10-15 seconds, just enough to soften the mixture. Stir the mixture and let it rest until its temperature is cool enough to apply on skin.
2. Prep your skin by washing the area with soap and water to remove unwanted residue. Dash a little powder on the area to be waxed to keep it dry.
3. Using the wooden applicator, apply a thin layer of the wax in the direction of hair growth. In the same direction, place the strip of cloth on top and even out air bubbles.
4. SWIFTLY pull the end of cloth towards the opposite direction - against hair growth. Repeat as needed.
5. Reddening of the skin after waxing is normal. Wax residue on skin can easily be removed with a damp cloth. Allow pores to close by letting skin rest for at least 30 minutes before completely washing the waxed area.
A SWEET REMINDER: do not use broken and irritated skin.
A few personal tips. Instead of using a damp cloth, apply baby oil (other types of oil will work as well) over a towel/tissue to wipe of sticky residue.




Contents of package: 50 grams of natural honey wax, 3 reusable and washable cloth strips and 2 popsicle sticks/wooden applicators.

I’ve used the wax twice and here’s my first impression:

PROS:

• Easy peasy application
• Effective in removing underarm hair
• Experienced no pain
• Sticky residue gets wiped of easily with baby oil

CONS:

Strip of cloth tends to run. Threads are falling off.

This is the end of my review for Nanny Rose’s Queen Bee Sticks & Pulls Honey Wax All Natural Hair Remover. Will I buy this product again? Yes, definitely. It’s my new best friend after all. I’m planning to get Nanny Rose's Queen Bee After Wax Salve as well..

Are you a pasta lover like me? Then, the House of Lasagna by Chef Erick Congmon is a restaurant you should try (if you haven’t tried).



During our lunch get-together, my college bff Inna mentioned about House of Lasagna. That the restaurant is getting raves and that is a must-try for both of us. And since, I won’t be in Makati forever and were just a few steps from the restaurant we should visit the place at least.

Last week, we with one of our ka-barkada planned to grab lunch together. I suggested we eat at House of Lasagna (Dela Rosa branch). Finally, I’ll get to try it out and satisfy my pasta cravings.

Uhm, so we were in House of Lasagna but neither one of us ordered a Lasagna. Hahaha. We’re so awesome! Haha.

Anyway, here’s what I have to say about House of Lasagna. The chicken skin is absolutely yummy, it didn’t taste like it’s been drowned in too much oil. The plate’s been emptied by us immediately. Haha. My order, Creamy pesto, was yeah, creamy.. I really wished I had ordered Neal’s pasta.. not that the creamy pesto didn’t taste good, it did! I was just not in the mood for pesto that day.. So why in the world did I order it, right? It got me with the word ‘creamy’.. Hahaha. Serving is a mouthful, I was only able to finish 1/4 of my creamy pesto. I took home my left over and had some of it during dinner instead, I liked it more during dinner, My mom liked it as well, and wants to try achieving the same taste.

If you’ve noticed the prices I’ve posted.. their pasta costs P220. Except for the lasagna which costs at P280 for a single serving, P800 for a half tray and P1,400 for the whole tray (Wohhoooo! Who’s up for a lasagna parteey! HAHAHA)



Time for the four of us to part ways. Neal? Is he sleeping?.. >.<

My college bestie and I agreed on meeting up every thursday (thanks to my sewing class) for lunch. And because I told her I wanted to take more ootds to share with my lovely visitors she agreed to my plan to take ootds every thursday. Thus, the birth of the hashtag #InnaNMicaOOThursdays.



This was #whatiwore yesterday. I wanted to upload this one yesterday but I had a lot of work to do... forgive me!



For this look, I wanted to keep it casual but still looks stylish (since I'll be sewing at school). I paired my ForMe Statement top with a pleated gray skirt and white Keds sneakers. To finish my sweet look I accessorized with a lace headband from Forever21 and a necklace from Yhansy



This shirt got me loving the brand ForMe. Their garments are made of nice fabric. And just like what I'm wearing, the design of most their pieces are simple but really chic.

Okay so time for me to spill it out. This top is actually my moms shirt. Hahaha. It's reaaaally nice, so I borrowed it for a while. Plus, it says exactly what I've been feeling - Happiness, despite my current life's struggles and challenges I am happy that I'm finally making steps toward my dreams.

In my previous post I’ve blogged about the new Nuvali, Solenad 3 (check the post here). Patrick and I went inside one of the stores that had opened in Solenad 3, Multisport hub. The shop had lots of interesting gears for the fitness or health fanatics. Not that both of us are, but at least we’re in the process of making ourselves fit & healthy.

It is a must that each and everyone of us get moving and do physical exercises.I would dance from time to time but it’s clearly not enough to keep my body fit.



Initially, we just wanted to check the store.



Until, I saw these FlipBelts hanging at Multisport Hub’s display and pointed it out to Patrick. Like me, he was amused that the FlipBelt is available at Multisport Hub.

I discovered the FlipBelt online. I think they started first from Kickstarter. And wow, I was really amazed to find the product here. You see, Kickstarter is a  way to fund creative projects. If people like a project, they can pledge money to make it happen. Why I was amazed?.. FlipBelts happened, and there here in the Philippines! FlipBelt (fitness belt) is a stretchy, seamless waist pouch that won’t ride up or slip off to keep your phone, keys or accessories safe & in place.

Beau started to go to the gym so he bought a gray one. It costs for only P1,500.00. Good enough right?

I’m planning to get a blue or black one for me, in case I might need a Flipbelt to place my phone, money, and some other valuables.

Way back before there was Nuvali Solenad 1 and Solenad 2. We, people of Santa Rosa, Laguna had few places to go. I am very much delighted that our province was chosen by Avida Land (an Ayala Land company) to set there establishments here. I would say it’s a blessing to have a place where people from far places, either those going to Tagaytay or those heading straight to Nuvali.

Fast forward to today, after Nuvali Solenad 1 and Solenad 2 comes Nuvali Solenad 3! I’ve been dropping by Solenad 2, and I’ve seen Solenad 3′s construction phase. Then, few days ago while Patrick and I worked on some errands and passed by Solenad 2 and decided to check out Solenad 3. There were shops opened already so we looked around for a while. Actually, I was amazed by how fast they built Solenad 3.



I find the place pretty, and glad that they’ve somehow placed green leafy structures (trees & plants) coz’ what I’m afraid of is that Santa Rosa will be filled with buildings it will no longer be as cool and flooding might start in our place. I do hope it won’t.

What makes me excited about Solenad 3?
1. A new place to shop! Though I still don’t know what exact brands will be at Solenad 3. What I’m seeing from there tarpaulin are all places to eat.
2. Cinema! Finally, a cinema (a pretty one) near me!! Wohooo~
3. More choices with food. It got quite difficult to eat at Nuvali since there aren’t that many choices, so glad to have more of them coming here at Solenad 3!
4. OOTD spots! You know... a place to take my ootd’s.
